  • Sanktuary – Something Fierce (2013) (Spread The Metal Records)

“Drawing on elements from traditional metal and early thrash-, speed-, and power metal, Sanktuary’s music is quite melodic and considerably easy to listen to and take in. There are plenty of all out rock ‘n’ metal guitar histrionic, and the mildly Geddy Lee-ish vocals actually fit nicely into the picture…Capturing the best of thrash as it was in its nascent era, Sanktuary’s “Something Fierce” should appeal to fans of thrash, speed, and traditional metal alike.” 4/5 – MetalMusicArchives

“Sanktuary have it all on this release and they manage to create a sound that combines vintage thrash riffs, melodic/speed and power metal passages in great abundance. This is a fantastic debut and if you enjoy the sounds of past eras like classic thrash, early 80’s speed metal and the NWOBHM then this might be for you. Something Fierce is no mere throwback, but a testament to the elements that forged such great sub-genres in the first place.” – The Metal Pit

“recent transplants from the Yukon to Nova Scotia and I’m pretty sure they didn’t do much but play music before heading south. Thrash with a thick coating of traditional metal, ‘Raise The Flag’ is a crowd pleaser and having heard them play it live, I know this to be true. I can’t wait for these guys to put out a full length!” – Earshot! (Review of Tundrastruck split EP)

“Raise The Flag is faithful track number two. Now without wanting to compare, I hear a little of early Metallica even a little Pound for Pound Anvil in this track. Without a doubt this is a beer drinking metal anthem. It makes me feel like slamming my text book against my vandalized desk and telling Ms.Sulley to “Fuck off, art history blows!” – Hard And Heavy Zine (Review of Tundrastruck split EP)

“I was excited to hear Sanktuary as they are a thrash metal band from the Yukon, and hell who ever hears of metal bands from the North. So that in itself right there is a big point of interest to get you excited…I do know that the opening track “Speed Demon” totally sticks in my head, and yes it sounds exactly like you expect it to sound. On their myspace page they have a thing that says just fucking metal and I think that really sums up everything you need to know about Sanktuary. If you like thrash then don’t hesitate listen to this as soon as you possibly can.” – Left Hip Mag (Review of Sanktuary EP 2009)

“The penultimate band last night was another Halifax speed metal band, that being Black Moor’s good friends Sanktuary, and though their sounds were similar in genre, Sanktuary stood out on their own as well! Compared to Black Moor, Sanktuary’s sound wasn’t as varied, taking more cues from speed metal in general, so it was more straightforward, but still very relentless and entertaining! Alan Binger’s vocals were really nice, ranging from a suitable heavy metal tone to some really melodic patches and even a couple falsetto notes here and there! He and Cole Hume rocked our faces off with their crushing metal sounds, and Anders Grasholm fit perfectly with his proficient drum skills! Though their originals were really entertaining and full of great old school metal, fans of Metallica were pleased to hear them cover “The Four Horsemen” and “Motorbreath” at the end of their set, which was really cool! Though I was getting worn out by this point, I recognized the talent of Sanktuary, and hopefully they come back to the Soo really soon!” – The Sault Metal Scene (Concert Review)

“Sanktuary delivers a retro speed/thrash style…”Raise the Flag” is a catchy and upbeat speed metal track” – Metal Music Archives (Review of Tundrastruck split EP)

“Originally from Whitehorse you have to wonder if that adds to the speed in which they play. Being cold all the time in their youth must have made them play quickly to stay warm. To be serious this is a great fast moving song (Raise The Flag) that is true thrash in every sense of the word.” – WeLoveMetal.com (Review from Tundrastruck spilt EP)

“Raise the Flag converted me with it’s rhythmically interesting grooves–I like that they don’t do everything cliche, and I detect some stonerrock influence here, especially in the outro. Gives your neck a break and shifts gears from headbanging to headbobbing, something i’m all for. Also a wicked guitar solo, and shouted gang vocals, right on boys! The performance is technically great,” – Noisography (Review from Tundrastruck split EP)

This is raw Thrash-influenced Metal as it should be. The demo has a real live feel about it. The guitar chugs away, the drums are battered & the singer grunts far more than he shrieks. BMB is a beer driven & enthusiastic romp in four songs. It does everything it says on the tin.” – Pulp Metal Mag (Review of Black Magic Brew EP 2010)

Travelling from Yukon to Nova Scotia may just be the greatest – in scale and awesomeness – trip any Canadian could ever imagine undertaking in their home country and yet, for Sanktuary, one of legendary extreme metal label Spread the Metal Records’ latest additions, it was all just part of their musical journey.

Spawning from high school friendship and growing into something much more epic, Sanktuary kicked things off with two back-to-back EPs – 2009's self-titled release and 2010's Black Magic Brew – and soon followed that up with a massive move from Whitehorse, Yukon to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

After touring the country following their epic relocation and being faced with a major blow in Toronto that saw their van and nearly all their gear get stolen, Sanktuary turned things around with a third EP in 2011, Tundrastruck, (a 3 way split with Black Moor and Metallian) and signing with Spread the Metal Records in 2012, which sent them all the way back to Whitehorse to begin recording their soon to be released debut full-length album, Something Fierce out this summer 2013.

They have yet to get road sick.

About: FINAL TRIGGER’s story begins on ‘The Block’, nestled deep in Toronto’s urban jungle. Crime and poverty stricken, amongst a haven of thugs and deadbeats, four musically talented characters cross paths.

The spark of a lighter in a dark alley, smoking joints over the talk of escape and rebellion. A dream of a better life, where money/weed/bitches are a plenty. Free-styling with homies, rolling dirty, and dropping out of school to jam and pursue music. Most of all: a pact that would bind each member to a common cause, and entwine their fates forever. These are the fundamentals on which Final Trigger was born, and would lead it to become what it is today.

    The Four Horsemen:

Lead Vocalist/Guitarist J-Roc provides the guitar-driven structures and shredding guitar solos with a tone reminiscent of Dimebag Darrell and Dave Mustaine. All while ripping vocal screams that would rival a Frankenstein of Lamb Of God, Snot and Hed PE.

Bass-man/Vocalist Fazio brings an equally heavy but funky vibe. He plays with a rock-solid presence and slap-bass style, with influences of Cliff Burton and Marcus Miller combined. Not to mention the ability to free-style vocally as if James Brown joined the Wu Tang Clan.

DJ/Vocalist Profit brings the smooth hip-hop vibe to the music, spitting savvy rhymes with old-school swagger, and tasteful keys and scratches.

Drummer extraordinaire JJ Tartaglia contributes the backbone beats and rhythms with a metal/funk style to get the groove just right. Blazing double kicks, sky-high cymbals, and a visual style unlike you’ve ever seen.

These players are the magical combination that makes Final Trigger an all-star line-up, and 2nd to none. The band believes hard in their music, and are proud to live their lyrics and image.

“‘Tides of War’ offers music that is well done and fueled with the propensity of delivering solid melodic death/thrash.” – Blistering.com

“Fans of modern thrash, who like it furious, biting and yet melodic check Chariots of The Gods.” – Lords of Metal

“There’s a lot on ‘Tides of War’ to pique the interest of either thrash or melodic death metal fans, and the non-stop galloping guitar sound is an impressive display of what the underground can achieve.” – MetalUnderground.com

“It is heavy, brutal and energetic while also incorporating a fair amount of melody to boot!…This is an album that is definitely going to raise the bar in the extreme music scene for the remainder of the year. Pick this one up; you won’t regret it!” – PureGrainAudio.com

“CHARIOTS OF THE GODS are showing plenty of promise to be able to be one of Canada’s next big things out there” – Metal Observer

“An incredibly professional production is at hand: drums are clear; vocals are on the perfect level with the instruments; even the soft and quiet moments are balanced just right so as to create bits of atmosphere against the heaviness. There is a pure love of metal evident in this debut and the production lets all the power, aggression, and passion through to the listener…the band confidently establishes their intention: a charge of solid and unyielding melodeath garnished with impeccable interludes, solos, and leads.” – MetalStorm

“CHARIOTS OF THE GODS, with their first full-length release ”Tides Of War”,is sure to be the new buzz of the underground scene…Overall, the album is an eclectic, vibrant, and colorful release that really keeps listeners head banging all the way and appreciating the good work the band has put in. The production is clearly strong, coming from the hands of Glen Robinsonwho has worked with Metal legends such as ANNIHILATOR and QUEENSRYCHE…The band does its best, and boy is it good, to church out infectious hook after hook, coupled with blistering melodies and kickass solos backed by Jobin’s great vocals. Each band member shines in this album and their dedication and devotion to their music is clear from the start…The entire album is structured in a genius way—these guys are clearly gifted lads.” – Metal-Temple

“Splendid stuff from a young Canadian troupe that would appear to have all the tricks… I love their coruscating mix of Maidenesque harmonies (have a listen to the awesome Blind Assassin and tell me you ain’t impressed)” – MetalAsFuck

“”Tides of War” is an album that rivals classics by acts such as God Forbid, Shadows Fall, and Killswitch Engage in excellence and pays respectful homage to acts like In Flames, Arch Enemy, At The Gates, and Dark Tranquility. For my money, this debut album deserves the status as a melodeath-type of metal classic. 5/5″ – MetalMusicArchives

“The best thing about this band, in my view, is the powerful melodic style they bring to each song. The guitarists are especially strong on several tracks, including “Tides of War,” “Revillusion (1905),” and “Unbound.” I loved the instrumental track “Snow Falls on the White River (1914),” yet another piece of evidence that these guys have a keen sense of melody, at times, one that even approaches beauty. Mathiew St-Amour and Dimitri Gervais play their guitars with grace and precision and sound especially great on their harmonized parts. These guys have a bright future as twin guitar leads and I hope they’ll take advantage of what they can do together. Readers who like their guitars to come in pairs will love this album.” – SeaofTranquility

ides of War” is an album that rivals classics by acts such as God Forbid, Shadows Fall, and Killswitch Engage in excellence and pays respectful homage to acts like In Flames, Arch Enemy, At The Gates, and Dark Tranquility. “COTG entice the listener with infectious hooks, associated melodies and some blistering solos out of the guitar work. If that is not justice enough for you to buy this, then listen to the intensity of Renaud Jobin’s vocals. This is a release that requires you to strap your balls down (if you have them of course!) when the volume is cranked up…They have a fantastic musical ability and a gift of song structure that exhumes listeners emotions that includes anger and conversely serenity and the need to throw the devil horns without too much though will therefore result. ‘Tides of War’ promotes Chariots of the Gods as real contenders in their field of metal, their field of glory and the rewards are presented for everyone on these exceptional fourteen tracks defining a generation of musically gifted individuals who do not rely purely on breakdowns to get their point across, it sounds effortless. Horn’s raised high gents! 4/5″ – Brutalism.com

“Overture is quite sweet sounding and feels like a film score. Nothing compared to the monster that is waiting to be unleashed. Ferocious riffs and classic metal vocals. Drums blasting out the speed and blasts and the guitars giving it a chunky edge whilst maintains some harmony. Hatebreed hardcore edge but throws in the melody. Definitely an innovative sound amongst a sea of similar sounds. Chariots of the Gods definitely seem to offer something that little bit different. Taking the generic metal sound and throwing in delicious guitar solos with a conflicting vocal. Upbeat without being cheesy.” – Culutre Bomb Mag

”I’m honored to be a part of this project” – Glen Robinson (producer)

”It’s pretty good!” – Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)

”In my opinion, Chariots of the Gods is THE melodic thrash metal revelation in Canada this year” – Musique d’une Nation

”An excellent band who knows what they are doing [...] Listen to them and you’ll discover something great” – Dave Lemire (Concert promoter)

”I am stoked to discover new talent from Ottawa [...] Chariots of the Gods is an erruption waiting to happen”  -The Ottawa Epitaph

“Hands down, CHARIOTS OF THE GODS have worked hard and have improved their songwriting that shines in “Tides Of War” in every aspect. Don’t be fooled by the melodic Death Metal tag and consider the Canadians just another IN FLAMES wannabe because there is more than just catchy riffs and growling vocals. And don’t forget that CHARIOTS OF THE GODS come from Canada that is a most reliable source for high quality Metal. 8/10″ – MetalKaoz.com

    BIO:

Most high school friends can’t even stand to look at each other once school’s out, but in the case of vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key, they decided to spend even more time together after graduation.

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, they joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist  Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they've coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Almost 100 percent do-it-yourself, Psychostick never strays from its signature sound, a combination of heavy music Chimaira, Machine Head and Hatebreed would be proud of and wit and humor that would make Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic holler with laughter.

With two full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title” and “Sandwich” - the band released their latest record, “Space Vampires VS Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D,” in 2011, following it up with a tour with Mushroomhead to add to their total count of 21 nationwide tours that have hit 47 states.
